Gatineau Park, a Recreational Destination

Location: 33 Chemin Scott, Chelsea, QC J9B 1R5
Open hour: 24h, Monday to Friday
Peak hours: 10 am to 4 pm, Saturday to Sunday

Gatineau Park is located in the Outaouais region of Quebec, Canada, is a 361 square kilometres (139 sq mi) wedge of land extending north and west from the city of Gatineau. The main entrance to the park is 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) north of downtown Ottawa, Ontario.

With 183 kilometres of hiking trails, as well as must-see attractions, Gatineau Park is a prime destination for outdoor activities.

Gatineau Park provides habitat for many species of birds including the pileated woodpecker and common loon. Turkey vultures and migrating hawks may be observed soaring on the thermals above the Eardley Escarpment.

The park is also home to a large population of beavers and white-tailed deer, as well as black bears and two wolf packs in the more remote sections.

Gatineau Park has a long history of human inhabitation and usage predating the arrival of European settlers.

The Abbey ruins make travelers immerse in the vicissitudes of time and the serenity of the abbey.

The Willson ruins ar Meech Lake are no secret to those who know Gatineau Park, and its builder is Thomas 'Carbide' Willson, a tireless and ingenious inventor, engineer, entrepreneur, and electrochemist, fascinated with emerging techbologies of his day.

Immerse yourself in nature in Gatineau Park, the Capital’s conservation and outdoor recreation park, just 15 minutes from downtown Ottawa–Gatineau.

Year-round, enjoy a range of activities —swimming, hiking, biking, camping, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing — as well as heritage sites and nature interpretation. One of the few places in Quebec with such rich biodiversity, the Park is a sanctuary for more than 100 species of plants and animals at risk.

Come and enjoy Canada’s Capital conservation park for a hike or walk, and reconnect with nature.
